Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge has 7700 acres of beach woodland marsh with migratory birds, marsh hawks, snow geese, loggerhead turtles, red foxes, and American Bald Eagles. With an annual draw of more than a million visitors, this National Natural Landmark is the state's most popular state park. There are facilities for education, camping, hiking, cycling, picnicking, fishing, boating, crabbing, and swimming. There's also a camp store and laundry facilities. Built in the early 1930's, the park is noted for being the northernmost point on the East Coast where temperate and subtropical plants flourish together. Handicap accessibility. Camping is permitted, and cabin rentals are available.

This former landfill was reconstructed into a park, which is more than 60 feet high and 800 feet long with 165 acres of children's playgrounds and recreational facilities, including a state of the art skateboard park (helmets are required). Trails, two lakes, picnic facilities, and basketball and volleyball courts complete the offerings. The park also hosts numerous special events throughout the year.
